Fall 2011Cover model, Jana Babinski soaks up sun and tranquility with her children, Anderson, Aidan and Aubrey, at the secluded catch-and-release pond at Spanish Oaks’ Fish Camp. The cover feature focuses on Daniel Porter’s repositioning of Spanish Oaks at the forefront of luxury communities in western Travis County and the remarkable surge in new-member sales at the Spanish Oaks Golf Club. Also featured in this story are Jim Tripi’s record of accomplishments as Director of Culinary Operations at the Spanish Oaks Clubhouse where he offers lunch, dinner, sliders and tacos for golfers, and home deliveries that provide an exclusive variation of “room service to your home.”



Summer 2011The dramatic fashion cover, shot at the lazy river pool at The Reserve at Lake Travis, features cover model, Holly Mills Gardner, a 7th generation Texan, a graduate of Texas State University and a Lake Travis resident. A former Miss Texas USA, Holly is a TV personality, film star, model and active participant in charity events. In 2009 alone, Holly helped to raise more than $2 million for Texas charities. She is married to Mide Gardner, and the couple’s two young sons keep Holly’s off-camera life busy and happy. This cover launched the Waterways’ debut of Brandi Nellis of Brandi Nellis Photography LLC. Brandi will bring her artistic visions to life on future Waterways’ covers.



Spring 2011Big Bend’s Dark Canyon on the Spring cover, painted by artist Bonnie Wunderlich, leads the way to the featured article in this issue that explores the magic of the Big Bend region. Endless skies and sweeping vistas provide the setting for Big Bend National Park, a land of chaotic geological contrasts that spreads over an impressive variety of climates and a dramatic range of elevations. The historic Gage Hotel in Marathon offered a luxurious counterpoint to the rugged landscapes in this impressive corner of west Texas and a point of departure for visits to Alpine, Fort Davis and Terlingua.
